Part of TV's History

CARNARVON'S SATELLITE DISH dominates the sky at 29.6 metres in diameter and it was from here that Australia received it's first satellite television broadcast. It was built in conjunction with NASA as a satellite communications and tracking station and involved in the Gemini and Apollo space missions. It closed in 1987 after helping track Halleys Comet. ROCKY POOL out of town on the way inland to Gascoyne Junction didn't have a lot of water in it, but there were cattle and goats drinking at the waters edge as well as some bird life. The Gascoyne river is very unusual as it is an upside down river and most of the water in this 764km river flows under the sandy bed.
